WHAT CAN WE OFFER YOU?
Certainty
When your health care system has failed or disappointed you, we can help.
We are not just another referral clinic in your neighbourhood, your family doctor can send you to any and all of those but he or she cannot refer you to us.
We are a private expertise service providing opinion about your spine to you, and “second opinion” on what you might have been told about your spine already – surgical or not!
SERVICES
What can you expect?
Expect to spend between one and two hours of dedicated one-on-one “face time” with one of our surgeons. Real human contact. Expert, caring and fully focused on you.
If surgery’s not the thing for you, we’ll tell you that. In the majority we can’t offer it to you if it is, there is no private spine surgery in Canada.
Our service is provided in a professional office consulting environment where you and your case are the entire focus of the consultation activity.
The history of your symptoms will be reviewed in detail with the surgeon, not a nurse or student or technician. Your case won’t be tickboxed off on a form or scanned into a tablet.
You will undergo a hands-on physical exam provided with biomechanical and kinetics expertise, not just the basic “bedside” neurological exam that is taught to first-year medical students. You’ll review specialized “dynamic” X-rays of your spine with the surgeon, right then and there. Yes, you will see your X-rays and the surgeon will explain what they reveal in simple and understandable terms. And then, you will see and review your own MRI with the surgeon as well.
Once he or she has understood your problem, the surgeon will explain in simple-to-understand terms how your spine is built anatomically and how it works biomechanically, what has gone wrong in your particular case, and what may or may not be done to treat or correct the problem. You may discuss the pros and cons of different treatments and surgical technologies. The surgeon can advise you on whether you really “need” surgery or not, what to expect if you don’t have it and what to expect from it if you do have an operation, describing both risks and benefits.
When it’s all said and done, you should be able to understand your spine care problem and the care options thoroughly. So…
-
If you’re not a surgical candidate and do have to live with your pain and symptoms you’ll understand why;
-
If you are on a long Canadian surgery wait list, you’ll have a good idea of what you’re waiting for;
-
If you’re considering spending the big dollars to “jump the que” and have surgery done outside the country, you’ll have an unbiased and very expert opinion that can bring confidence to that challenging decision.
